WMF
The history of the World Muaythai Federation started in April 1993 but under a different name. The International Amateur Muay Thai Federation (IAMTF) was created by Mr. Kwang Robkop as a response to his view of the governance of amateur Muaythai at the time. He saw that the there were already organisations practising Muaythai but they all seemed to be using Muaythai to make profit. Mr. Kwang Robkop wanted to create an organisation that not only promoted the sport of Muaythai as it exists today but also to promote Muaythai as it represents 1000's of years of Thai Culture.
When Mr. Kwang Robkop was establishing the IAMTF he met with General Tienchai Sirisompan about the situation and his desire to change it. General Tienchai Sirisompan agreed to support Mr. Kwang Robkop's organisation. Later General Tienchai Sirisompan agreed to be President of the IAMTF.
General Tienchai Sirisompan was President of IAMTF until 2003 when due to failing health he appointed General Chaisit Shinawatra, the Supreme Commander of the Thai Armed forces to be President of the federation.
In 2003 the World Muaythai Federation (WMF) was created as an agreement between IFMA and IAMTF to join together to promote Amateur Muaythai. Subsequently the IFMA broke the agreement, however, the WMF has survived.
The WMF has held a World Championship every year since 2004. It has been involved with both Asian Indoor Games that are held by the Olympic Committee of Asia. It has also been involved with the International Martial Arts Council Games. It organises a number of other events and tournaments during the years including Refereeing and Coaching courses.
