Gauth's Muaythai Journey
“I’ve never really written a testimonial before, but in all honesty it’s something I had to do after my experience training at Phon’s gym. My name’s Gauth and I’m a 24 year old guy taking a year off my post graduate studies (MSc/PhD at UWA) to invest time in improving my physical and mental well being. Due to bad choices when I was younger I developed a weight problem that has haunted me for years. I have always been competitive in the sports I’ve played, but my weight always held me back in performing at the level I wanted to. Muaythai has always been an interest of mine, especially after watching recorded videos of Thailand’s Lumpinee and Rajadamnern stadium fighters battling it out against one another. The skill, conditioning and endurance needed to compete in the sport, was mind blowing. Furthermore, I found the art of Muaythai appealing due to the emphasis Buddhism has on it, as well as the cultural significance of the art in Thailand’s history. With research I found that the training involved a great cardiovascular and core strength work out, exactly what I needed in order to lose the kilos. So through word of mouth, I heard about Muaythai Promotions and Phon’s gym and went to enquire about training.
I first met Phon back in late 2008, which is when I joined private tuition. Then and there he told me, with commitment and hard work I can achieve all the goals I set for myself. Initially I was training once a week, and although I was noticing improvement, I knew I had to work a lot harder. This year (2009) I’ve committed, applied myself and trained more frequently during the week (training harder - like a fighter) and in doing so, Phon has helped me lose 27 kilos in about 7 months.
My lifestyle has improved significantly and words can’t describe my positive outlook on life now. Both my mental and physical strength has improved significantly, and I can’t thank Phon enough for all the training and advice he has given me over the months. I value all his advice as he has much to teach. I will continue training at Phon’s gym as I know I’ll need to work hard to further improve and maintain my new body and mind, and hopefully one day practise what I have learnt in the ring. I can’t forget to mention that I enjoy the training sessions immensely and look forward to them with great enthusiasm. Thank you Phon, I owe you a lot. I will buy you that plane ticket as a bonus one day haha. :)”
